GOLF

Let us do the organising! We have trained professionals who can take you out to the course to enjoy your afternoon with golf.

SURFING

Grab some boards and hit the local surf spots. We can provide a local surf instructor if you want to learn.

BIRD WATCHING

Tawharanui Peninsular is a bird and wildlife sanctuary, with sightings of rare native birds a daily occurrence. Grab some binoculars and go for a walk along the property, or even to Tawharanui Regional Park where you can go on a guided Kiwi Bird tour.

Tawharanui Regional Park

Located amongst farmland and stunning native bush, where the Tui's sing and the Kiwi birds hide, bask in the sun and swim at one of NZ’s most beautiful beaches. If you are feeling energetic, hike the trails of the staggering coastline.

Mount Tamahunga

Tramp up to the summit of Mt Tamahunga through regenerating native bush. This track is part of the Te Araroa - The Long Pathway.

Brick Bay Winery & Sculpture Trail

Feed your artistic soul at this stunning venue and peruse the enormous NZ designed sculptures along a gorgeous forest trail, all with a glass of locally sourced wine in hand and a high-end restaurant to retreat to when you’re done.

Matakana Market

Every Saturday Morning, the Matakana Village Farmers’ Market roars ahead as a true organic foodie heaven. Enjoy an organic coffee and whitebait fritter sitting next to the stream before heading to the craft market next door for artisan and boutique crafts.

Kawau Island

Zip across the water via ferry or water taxi to Kawau Island, one of the largest islands that make up the Hauraki Gulf. Here find rich NZ history at Governor Grey House, enjoy an ice cream from the island kiosk or find a tree to nap under by the beach.

Goat Island Marine Reserve, Leigh

New Zealand’s oldest marine reserve, offering outstanding protected marine wildlife, prepare yourself to snorkel with huge snapper and experience true marine abundance. You can hire snorkels and wetsuits on the way. If snorkeling is not your thing you can paddle a kayak, a clearyak or board the glass bottom boat. The Goat Island Marine Discovery Centre is well worth a visit for all ages.

The Sculptureum

Sculpture galore is rife in Matakana, with another fantastic spot to view and experience the grand beauty of unique sculpture art, with a high-end restaurant (Rothco) onsite offering delicious food and local wine.

Morris and James

This pottery and showroom shop combined with a quaint café boasts special one-off pottery creations perfect for adding some extra colour to your life. Located on farmland, find serenity in the experience while being only a 10-minute walk from the village.

Matakana Country Park

Have your little ones play on the giant Buzzy Bee, while exotic chickens wander through the playground. Older kids can have a go at riding horses, and there is even a rustic cafe where parents rejuvenate with a flatwhite before moving onto the next kids activity!

Ravish

From a little coffee kiosk just off Matakana Rd, between Matakana Village and Warkworth, find amazing coffee, sweet and savory treats and cakes, salad boxes, and other bits and pieces to enjoy. Pop into the gorgeous homewares shop Green with Envy while you are waiting for your coffee.

The Farmer’s Daughter

Organic and fresh produce turned incredible meals is the motto for this eatery, and it is sure not to disappoint. A stone’s throw from Omaha Beach, enjoy a coffee or brunch overlooking the Omaha Estuary before or after a picturesque walk along this iconic beach.

BEST PLACES TO EAT AND DRINK

The Sawmill Brewery

The Sawmill, with its bespoke brewery in the middle of the venue and carefully curated grazing plates, this eatery has become a favourite by a long shot.

The Matakana Village Pub

For a more central choice, and if you're looking for hearty gastro pub food made with a high-end twist, enjoy lunch or dinner from a sun-filled courtyard, or a cold drink within the historic bar.

Rothco

If you are looking for a more ‘up market’ dining experience that embodies the fresh flavors of the season, Rothco is the perfect choice for a long lunch or dinner. Set amongst the Sculptureum gardens, Rothco is open for lunch 11 am to 4 pm Thursday to Sunday and dinner 5pm to 10 pm. Reservations are a must

OBV Winery

Find kiwi meets old European charm in the OBV Wine cellar, where you can enjoy a handcrafted wine and learn its flavours and design, just a short drive from Bluestone Estate. Lunch with wine and a stunning view out towards Omaha will have you not wanting to leave!

Charlies Gelato

Find 40 different ice cream (gelato and sorbetto) flavours to pick from, all made here in Matakana, most of the ingredients sourced from the fruit garden on the property. While you are waiting have a browse through The Knitting Truck for beautiful NZ yarns, patterns and a few gorgeous knitted garments.
