Guests' words

Such a unique and extraordinary house! The views are absolutely breathtaking, and the location is incredibly quiet and private. The amenities and equipment are top-notch: everything you could possibly need is there. We loved every minute and would love to come back!

A guest, the Farmhouse

Our family of five couldn't have asked for a better spot to relax and unwind. The views are stunning and the home is perfectly laid out to enjoy time together. Our host provided great recommendations and was even helpful in planning other parts of our trip around the North Island.

The residence

Room to be together. Space to be on your own.

Generous living spaces open onto sun-filled decks and an upper terrace above the Gulf, with plenty of room to come together, and just as many places to disappear to. Take a book to the swing seat in the trees, settle into an Adirondack chair with a coffee, or find a quiet spot by the kitchen garden.

Inside, fires are lit in the cooler months, with farmhouse blankets close at hand. There's a media room, whole-house sound, Starlink Wi-Fi and air conditioning in the primary bedroom and living spaces. Long lunches drift into afternoon on the deck; evenings end by the fire beneath a sky full of stars.

Sleeping

The bedrooms

Wake to birdsong and morning light over the Gulf. Four bedrooms have the generous proportions and easy character of a classic New Zealand farmhouse, with framed water views and doors opening onto the upper terraces to let the sea air in. Two have private ensuites; the shared bathroom has a deep freestanding bath, with underfloor heating throughout the bathrooms.

Upstairs, the loft belongs to the children: a king single and trundle tucked beneath the eaves, made for whispered stories and slow mornings.

The grounds

Fifteen acres above the Gulf.

Fifteen acres of former farmland and regenerating native bush, high above the peninsula. The infinity pool and spa pool. Volleyball, pétanque, and Kubb on the lawn. A kitchen garden to pick herbs for dinner. The wood-fired pizza oven for an evening ritual, and the firepit for after. Beyond the gate, Buckleton Beach is a twelve-minute walk, Omaha Beach ten minutes by car, Matakana Village seven, and the beaches and marine reserve of Tāwharanui Regional Park a short drive. Te Arai Links is forty minutes by car.

Part of the Farmhouse

The Cookhouse

The name comes from the traditional cookhouses of New Zealand farm stations: the place where farm workers and shearing gangs gathered to be fed around one table. Ours is a modern take: 40 square metres of glass beside the Farmhouse, with the Hauraki Gulf as the backdrop and a long recycled-oak table seating twelve to eighteen.

Inside is a chef's kitchen with a 90 cm gas stove and oven; outside, a wood-fired pizza oven and barbecue. Bring in a private chef to cook just for your table, with a menu shaped around your party and the coast's growers and fishers, or make the kitchen your own.

In summer, dinner drifts onto the lower deck, with sofas, beanbags, an outdoor fire, lawn games and the pool nearby. In winter, the Cookhouse becomes a front-row seat to the weather, before retreating to the Farmhouse fire with a basket of blankets.

The Cookhouse is available with the Farmhouse or sole occupancy of Bluestone Ridge. From May to October, it can also be booked separately for private dinners, board meetings and workshops. Small gatherings of twelve to eighteen are our sweet spot; larger celebrations are considered individually. Price on application.

Questions

How many people can stay?

Ten, across five bedrooms on three floors: a king with its own ensuite, a queen with its own ensuite, a double, a queen, and the loft with a king single and a trundle bed for children. Four bathrooms. The Farmhouse is the only residence at Bluestone Ridge, so ten is also the limit for the property.

What is the Cookhouse, and is it included?

The Cookhouse is a separate chef's kitchen and dining room beside the Farmhouse, glazed on three sides, with a recycled oak table for twelve to eighteen, a wood-fired pizza oven, and a gas barbecue. It belongs to the Farmhouse and is offered with it, or with sole occupancy of Bluestone Ridge, priced on application. Ask when you enquire and Bluestone Estate will confirm what is possible for your dates.

Can we hold a celebration or a company offsite here?

Yes, at one table. The Cookhouse seats twelve to eighteen for a family celebration, a board dinner, or a workshop with a view, with a private chef if you wish. That is the gathering the Farmhouse is built for. Larger celebrations are considered case by case; please enquire and Bluestone Estate will confirm in writing what is possible.

Is the Farmhouse private?

Yes. Bluestone Ridge is a gated fifteen-acre property with the Farmhouse as its only residence, 1.2 kilometres from Bluestone Main Estate. When you book the Farmhouse, the pool, the spa pool, the lawns, and the Cookhouse are yours alone.

Is it suitable for children?

Very. The loft bedroom, with its king single and trundle, is made for them. There is a lawn for volleyball, pétanque, and Kubb, a pizza oven for the evening, and a beach a twelve-minute walk away. There is a pool and a spa pool, so children need the supervision they would anywhere beside water.

What is nearby?

Buckleton Beach is a twelve-minute walk. Omaha Beach is ten minutes by car and Matakana Village seven, with its Saturday farmers market, galleries, and restaurants. Tāwharanui Regional Park, with its beaches and marine reserve, is a short drive, and Te Arai Links forty minutes by car. Auckland is an hour.
