Wellness and Restoration

Sometimes the place itself does most of the work. The quiet, the water, the native bush and the space to slow down give Bluestone Estate a naturally restorative quality. Guests often remark on the particular energy of the land, looking towards sacred Mt Tamahunga, whose protective presence has long been felt across the peninsula.

There is no wellness timetable here. Practice in the yoga dome with a private teacher, or alone at first light. Work out in The Gym, swim, walk, or have a massage come to your residence. Do as much or as little as you like, entirely on your own time.

Four pillars

Movement, stillness, recovery, nature.

A woman in reverse warrior on a yoga mat on the pool deck at Bluestone Main Estate, one arm raised to the sky, with the infinity pool, the hedges, and the estuary and hills beyond.

Movement

Move your way. A private teacher can come to you for yoga, pilates or a personal training session. At Bluestone Main Estate, practise in the Yoga Dome, train in the Gym or use the reformer in The Bush Hut (coming soon).

A guided breathwork and meditation practice on the lawn at Bluestone Estate: the teacher standing with eyes closed, two guests seated cross-legged before her, and the estuary and hills beyond.

Stillness

Some of it is guided: private breathwork, meditation or yoga. Some of it simply comes with being here: birdsong, native bush, water, no through traffic and very little to interrupt the quiet.

Recovery

The Bush Hut (coming soon) sits within the native bush, with an infrared sauna and cold plunge looking into the trees. Massage and other treatments can be arranged in the privacy of your residence.

Two children climbing a gnarled old tree in the native bush at Bluestone Estate, one higher in the branches and one pulling herself up the trunk, an adult's hand steadying her from below.

Nature

Nature is part of the rhythm of Bluestone Estate. Life is lived barefoot outside: swim, sit beneath the trees or simply lie on the grass watching the clouds. A private guide can also take you through the native bush, sharing what grows here and the traditional Māori uses of the plants around you.

A guided bush walk at Bluestone Estate: a guide in a straw hat with a hand on a child's shoulder, both looking up into the canopy from a boardwalk among nīkau, tree ferns, and kānuka.

The bush itself

From the canopy to the water.

The bush comes right to the door. Kānuka and tree ferns, nīkau and flax, with tūī and kererū by day and ruru and kiwi calling after dark. The estuary is never far away. Step outside, slow down and let the day take its own shape. Nothing needs arranging. The simplicity is the point.

For those who want to understand the land more deeply, a private guided walk through the native bush can be arranged, sharing what grows here and the traditional Māori uses of the plants around you.

The Pool, Spa Pool & Cedar Hot Tub

The infinity pool looks out over the estuary, while the spa pools and cedar hot tub are warm and waiting when you arrive. And yes, spa pool is simply the Kiwi name for a hot tub. Same warm water, just a New Zealand accent.

The Bush Hut.

Cantilevered into the native bush, The Bush Hut is designed to feel almost suspended among the trees. Weathered timber reclaimed from old cattle yards gives way to a wall of glass opening onto the bush, so you can watch the native birdlife and the changing light in the trees as you restore.

Inside, a full-spectrum infrared sauna, cedar-clad cold plunge, shower and Pilates reformer create a private space for heat, cold and movement. Private reformer sessions can also be arranged.

The Bush Hut is for guests of The Main House and those taking sole occupancy of Bluestone Main Estate. Opening soon.
