Guests' words

I recently had the privilege to stay with my large family at Bluestone Estate. This is truly a unique luxury experience. The decor and facilities of this property are world class and set in a stunning Matakana precinct. The whole stay was superbly overseen by the owner and her dedicated property manager. It was memorable and I could not recommend it highly enough.

A large family, the Main House

We had an opportunity for a family gathering with relatives visiting from overseas. Bluestone Estate proved to be the ideal option. Luxurious, stylish accommodation with loads of activities to keep both children and adults occupied: basketball, tennis, croquet on the lawn, swimming pool and hot tub. Followed by an evening sat round one of the three outdoor fires, spinning yarns, toasting marshmallows, and partaking in a few quiet beverages. And being Auckland based, it was an easy 45 minute drive up the new motorway. Highly recommend.

A family gathering, Auckland

Our host was a delight: radiating warmth and positivity, she was engaging, attentive and incredibly thorough. With three generations travelling together, everyone had different needs and she went out of her way to ensure service and experiences exceeded expectations. When the room configuration didn't quite work for some guests, she immediately sprang into action and resolved everything with ease and grace. Her recommendations from her local network, from musicians to serenade, to characterful restaurateurs, all were perfectly judged. Nothing was ever too much trouble.

Questions about Bluestone Main Estate

Is the Main House staffed, and are staff on site overnight?

The Main House is a private home, not a hotel: there is no reception, no timetable, and no one in the house unless you ask. A host welcomes you, shows you the house, and then steps back. From then on your host is a message away, day and night, and will be with you quickly if anything is needed. Housekeeping, chefs, teachers, and therapists come to the house when you want them and leave when they are done. If you travel with your own nanny, security, or private chef, accommodation for them on the Main Estate can be arranged.

What is included in the nightly rate, and what is arranged at additional cost?

The rate is for the whole residence at its full occupancy and includes coffee, tea, and pantry staples, high-speed wifi, firewood, and the use of everything on the Main Estate: the infinity pool and spa pools, the tennis court, the gym, the yoga dome, the pool house games room, the kayaks, surfboards, and e-bikes. Arranged at additional cost: pantry provisioning before you arrive, private chefs and catered dinners, in-residence massage and private yoga, guided bush walks, bespoke tours, transfers by road or helicopter, celebration styling, and a dedicated concierge at NZD 130 an hour.

Is the Main House suitable for children, and are cots and high chairs available?

Yes. Children are welcome, loudly. The loft bunk room with its own TV and sofa is theirs, and outside there is the lawn, the inground trampoline, the pool house games room, the tennis court, and bush walks. Cots and high chairs are available on request: tell us when you book and they will be in place before you arrive. Children are never far from water here, so we ask that they are supervised around the pool, the spa pools, and the estuary.

What is available on site without leaving the estate?

More than a week needs. The infinity pool and two spa pools, a full-size tennis court with a basketball hoop, a fully equipped gym, the yoga dome, the pool house games room with a pool table and darts, eight e-bikes, kayaks and surfboards, an inground trampoline, petanque and lawn games, native bush walks, the firepit, a barbecue, and the organic kitchen garden. Private chefs, in-residence massage, private yoga, and guided bush walks come to you. The Saturday market, the beaches, and the vineyards are minutes away when you do want to go out.

Are the pool, spa, and wellness facilities exclusive to our booking?

Yes. The pool, the spa pools, the tennis court, the gym, and the yoga dome belong to The Main House and to sole occupancy of Bluestone Main Estate. Book The Main House and they are yours. Book sole occupancy of the Main Estate and the whole property is yours, with no other guests on it. Bluestone Estate is not a lodge: there is no timetable and nobody to share a pool deck with.

Can I book just one residence, or do I have to take everything?

Either. All seven residences are bookable individually, and any property may be booked on a sole occupancy basis.

How far is Bluestone Estate from Auckland?

One hour by car from Auckland CBD and seventy-five minutes from Auckland International Airport, or twenty minutes by helicopter to the estate's helipad. Matakana Village is seven minutes away and Te Arai Links forty.
